Mumbai genome sequencing: 36 of 234 Samples Detected with XBB Subvariant 33 with XBB.1

On Friday, an official stated that in the 16th genome sequencing series, 15%, or 36 samples out of 234 swab samples, were detected with the XBB subvariant. He added that according to the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, 14% of the 234 samples, or 33 samples, have been found infected with the XBB.1 subvariant.

 

The official circular released by the civic body revealed that out of the 234 patients, 24 (10%) were below 20 years of age, 94 (40%) were in the 21–40 age segment, 69 (29%) were in the 41–60 age group, 36 (15%) were between 61 and 80 years of age, and 11 (5%) were above 81 years of age, respectively. The circular also noted that 87 patients had not taken the COVID-19 vaccine, of whom 15 had to be hospitalized, but none of them needed ICU admission.

 

On the other hand, among the rest of the 147 patients who had been vaccinated, 7 patients were hospitalized. It also added that two patients had died in private hospitals due to comorbidities, including one who was 88 years old.
